Fun, witty, and mad. This is how a Back to the Future game should be. The return of the cast make this game instantly memorable and further exploration into the universe is always welcome.
60
Back to the Future: the Game is a good adventure, recommended to all the fans of the series. Just, if you can, don't buy it on the Wii: the framerate is a nightmare.
65
Nintendo Power
There is a terrific adventure game here, but you'll have to tolerate multiple irritating quirks to get to it. [Nov 2011, p.79]

Some great games let down by a clunky port. Worth it for fans of the films, mind.

It sounds, and to a degree looks, like the movies but this run of the mill graphic adventure lacks the soul and excitement of the film franchise.

Captures everything about the films but their pace. Each five-hour episode, though, offers undeniable value. [July 2012, p.103]

While light on the gameplay side, the first episode of Back to the Future absolutely nails the charm, humor, and sense of adventure that made the films so much fun.
90
For fans of the hit movie trilogy, Back to the Future: It's About Time is exactly what we were hoping for.
80
Despite its clunky interface and short length, Telltale's first episode of Back to the Future: The Game provides a steady stream of delights thanks to its charming story and eccentric cast.
75
It is a good adventure game, that is undeniable, that honorably continues such a charming movie series, but we think and know that Telltale can do better, and we are looking forward to the next episodes.

Back To the Future is a sacred franchise to many fans, Telltale have done well to stay true to the world of Doc and Marty without too much in the way of deviation. While re-creating their universe, Back To the Future Episode 1 produces a great story and some fun puzzles to solve.
75
Back to the Future is a welcome surprise -- it's a movie-inspired game that doesn't suck. Instead, it pushes the characters in interesting directions and whips up a good story.
80
You can plow through Episode 1 in a couple of hours, but it's still time well spent, and the impressive presentation and story will keep you glued to the screen the whole time. Back to the Future can't escape its issues, but Telltale did what few publishers manage to achieve: do a movie franchise justice. Now give us Episode 2.
70
Strong writing and some fun scenarios save Back to the Future Ep1 HD from its control and performance issues.

For one thing, it's 20% cheaper at $20 in comparison to the PC version's $25 price tag. When you factor in the Trophies that encourage you to tackle some of the game's puzzles and conversations in different ways, I offer the same level of recommendation for this iteration.
80
The game's funny and clever if not a bit simple, but it's an enjoyable ride fans shouldn't miss.
60
Playstation Official Magazine UK
There's no risk of failing the puzzles. [May 2011, p.117]

The gameplay took a hit since the last installment, but the storytelling is still superb.
91
It might have taken Telltale a little bit longer to put out this episode, but it was worth the wait. Like It's About Time, Get Tannen is on the shorter side. On the other hand, that only goes to show how well Telltale has gotten with the pacing since there's hardly a spot you can get stuck in, unlike some of their earlier adventure game seasons.

Even with these improvements, it's held back by n incredibly small game world that too frequently revisits its few sets, and makes being stuck in the '20's for a second episode monotonous. [July 2011, p.77]

80
It is a safe bet that proponents of the first episode will likely enjoy Episode Two, and if Telltale's track record in the adventure game genre is any indication, the whole Back to the Future game series is likely going to reach classic status down the road.
70
Still, if you just want a cool story and some fun adventure game puzzles, this episode is solid and packing some time travelin' action.
70
Back to the Future Ep2 HD would be more charming if it weren't for pesky technical problems and performance issues.
80
Like I said, fans should dig this one; detractors won't. "Get Tannen" does nothing super special other than add to the fiction, which I imagine would be fine for everyone who enjoyed the first installment of the game series and are looking for more.

While it would be nice to see some side quests or branching environments worth exploring, and a few minor glitches result in some awkward scenes, Telltale's Back to the Future remains one of the better film adaptations in video games, and I can't wait to see where this series goes as Telltale begins to build towards a conclusion. If episodes 4 and 5 build on the series as much as this entry has, you won't want to miss it either.
75
TellTale Games improves his Back to the Future game with this third chapter. Nice dialogues and plot, however it's still too short and pretty easy for many gamers.
63
PC Gamer
Citizen Brown's story is predictable, its dialog lacks Telltale's usual subtlety, and it takes far too long to ramp up the action. [July 2011, p.77]
90
The expanded scope of the story, great dialogue, and improved puzzles all combine to ensure that this game makes good on the premise's potential, and even if you weren't sold on episodes 1 and 2, if you're a fan of the series it is definitely worth your time to catch up so you can check out all the goodness episode 3 has to offer. For Back of the Future fans, Telltale has delivered.

Episode 3 isn't the strongest episode thus far with seemingly all the focus placed on plot progression rather than offering clever puzzles. It'll still keep players interested though and has certainly piqued my interest ready to try Episode 4.
90
But as a self confessed Back To The Future fan, this episode has been a great ride through some slightly unfamiliar territory. The ending might leave you wanting Episode 4 in a hurry, however. As usual, it's a must for ipad owning fans of the movies.
70
Part 3 is an enjoyable continuation of the Back To the Future story, but is still plagued by the technical issues of past attempts.
70
Back to the Future Ep3 is by far the strongest in the series for the story, the ending and although the puzzles are still relatively easy, the change in scenery helps it feel more like a fresher experience.

"Citizen Brown" has a great overall plot that spends too much time on bland details and bland puzzles.
91
An awesome piece of very approachable (if not plain too easy) fan service and, in this case, pleasing fans ain't bad at all.
75
I think the story takes the characters to some goofy places in the end and I didn't feel like I'd accomplished much when everything was said and done, but that's far from a deal-breaker.

Double Visions continues the downward trend of Back To The Future: The Videogame.
70
Despite its faults, Back to the Future Episode 4 remains a pleasurable nostalgia trip for fans. Among other clever winks to the film series, Marty blasts a few people off their feet after hooking his guitar up to a car-sized speaker and rides around town on a makeshift skateboard. Like every episode before it, Double Vision ends with a twist, which helped build my excitement for Telltale's next (and final) entry, but I hope Episode 5 tries to break the mold.
80
Back to the Future continues to be interesting story- and characterwise, but still doesnt hit the spot as an adventure game.
55
PC Gamer
It's still better than the first episode, but its weaknesses will leave you wishing you could go back in time to stop yourself from playing it--space time continuum be damned. [Sept 2011, p.73]

The puzzles let Back to the Future Episode 4 down but it's the storyline that keeps players engrossed.
80
It's more of the same but the story raises it above the previous episodes.
60
The combination of a mostly-uninteresting puzzle mechanic, and many missed opportunities make what could have been a great game, a good one.
70
The only difference between ep4 and all it's predecessors is the story and locations, all the existing problems and the existing greatness follow over into this episode, so I am sure you can probably already guess what I'll be scoring this episode ...again.

Outatime is also significant as it is the first entry in which Michael J. Fox joins the cast, jumping into the role of one of Marty's ancestors. While I found Fox's involvement exciting, the actor's character seemed out of place during these sequences (as if the role was written late just so Telltale could slide him in), and Fox himself uses a goofy southern accent that does little to disguise his aging voice. It's sad, but the most authentic sounding McFly in the game is a Michael J. Fox impersonator.
75
PC Gamer
OUTATIME corrects many of the past four episodes' weaknesses with plentiful locations, a strong script, and a fulfilling conclusion to what has been an upsettingly lackluster series. [Oct 2011, p.77]
75
A good effort by Telltale, able to cover both hardcore and casual players, making Back to the Future a perfect game for newcomers to the adventure genre.
95
It wraps up all the plotlines and does a fantastic job of it.
