Bestselling author John Green has seen almost all his books adapted for the screen –The Fault In Our Stars, Paper Towns, Looking For Alaska –and Turtles All The Way Down is another success, with a winning performance by Isabela Merced (Instant Family) in the lead. Merced is 16-year-old Aza, who is trying to do all the normal things teens should do, while coping with stifling anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorders. When the billionaire next door disappears, she can’t leave the story alone and begins her own investigation, leading her to connect with the missing man’s suitably handsome son (Felix Mallard). An appealing tale sensitively told by director Hannah Marks (After Everything).

The Exorcist: Believer

Widower Victor (Leslie Odom Jr, One Night In Miami) is beside himself when his daughter Angela (Lidya Jewett, Good Girls) goes missing – but when she returns, things aren’t much better as a distressing chain of events is set in motion. Desperate, he recruits Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn, reprising her role from The Exorcist) who, though estranged from her formerly bedevilled daughter, has become an expert in demonic possession. Will a grim exorcism save their souls, or will it simply tear the family apart? You’ll be gripped by this disturbing sequel – and keep your eyes peeled for the original Exorcist possessee, Linda Blair.

Teenager George (Joe Anders) is an aspiring musician with one problem: no one is interested in his music. That’s until Max (Samuel Small) enrols at his school and the pair begin a highly productive partnership that brings George out of his shell. The end-of-term show might be a decisive moment for them… A likeable and entertaining coming-of-age movie, co-written by The Crown star Josh O’Connor.

Ride On

Lao Luo (Jackie Chan) was once a successful stuntman, but he’s fallen on hard times: pretty much all he has left is Red Hare, a horse who used to be his onscreen partner. When debt collectors arrive to tell him Red Hare is in danger of being auctioned off, things get physical – and the video of the confrontation goes viral. Now the collectors don’t just want his money, they want revenge as well, leading to a series of hilarious, action-packed antics – with Red Hare more than playing his part – that showcases Chan’s talent for both incredible stunts and heartwarming comedy.

Meg 2: The Trench

Diver turned action movie star Jason Statham put his aquatic skills to good use when seeing off a gigantic prehistoric shark in The Meg, and we hope he’s been keeping the swimming lessons up because now there are three of the blighters to deal with – and they’re pretty cranky. This action sequel ups the ante considerably, with Statham’s Jonas Taylor coming to the rescue again after some unscrupulous pirates disturb the toothy horrors that had been lurking unseen in the deep. It’s never safe to go back into the water…

The Royal Hotel

While backpacking around Australia, American best friends Hanna (Julia Garner, Inventing Anna) and Liv (Jessica Henwick, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery) find themselves short on funds. Temporary bar work at an outback pub called the Royal Hotel seems to be the perfect solution. The locals are friendly at first, but a combination of money troubles and excessive drinking soon makes the situation uncomfortable – and when things turn violent, Hanna and Liv need to find a way out before it’s too late. Hugo Weaving (The Matrix) also stars.

Am I OK?

Dakota Johnson (How To Be Single) stars as Lucy, an early-30s singleton who can’t find a spark with any man she dates. Eventually she confides in best friend Jane (Sonoya Mizuno, Devs) that she she suspects she knows why: although she has never fully admitted it to herself, she likes women. Jane does her best to help Lucy negotiate a tricky new phase of life, but she’s about tomove overseas – will Lucy be able to cope without her? A charming romcom about late bloomers, written and directed by married couple (and queer comedy royalty) Tig Notaro and Stephanie Allynne.

The Great Escaper

In 2014, 89-year-old World War II veteran Bernard Jordan tired of people telling him he couldn’t travel to the D-Day 70th anniversary ceremonies in France –so he simply left his nursing home and made his way there. This true story inspired the uplifting film The Great Escaper, with Michael Caine in the role of Bernard and the late Glenda Jackson, in her final screen appearance, as his wife Irene. Heartwarming but less sentimental than you might expect, this is a stirring film about dignity, forgiveness and enduring love, with memorable performances from Jackson and Caine.

Five Nights At Freddy’s

Available from Friday 21 June in Sky Cinema on demand. Cert 15

Unemployed Mike (Josh Hutcherson, The Beekeeper) is grateful for the opportunity to work as a security guard at an abandoned pizzeria, Freddy Fazbear’s. But the job turns out to be less straightforward that he expected, partly because his devious aunt has hired vandals in an attempt to get him fired, but mostly because the site’s animatronic mascots are possessed by the spirits of dead children. And they’re not happy campers. It’s a battle for survival in this tongue-in-cheek horror movie based on the hit video game.

A Sacrifice

In Berlin, American psychologist Ben Monroe (Eric Bana, The Dry) is investigating how a disturbing local cult prompted a catastrophic event. He’s joined, reluctantly, by his teenage daughter Mazzy (Sadie Sink, Stranger Things), who is soon distracted by the temptations of the city’s underground party scene. But Mazzy is playing with fire – and her exploits, as well as unearthing connections to Ben’s work, put her in danger. Can Ben save his daughter in time? An intriguing and occasionally delirious thriller, produced by legendary film-maker Ridley Scott and directed by his daughter Jordan Scott.
