We Tried Doritos Dinamita Sticks and One Flavor Really Wowed Us (1)

After launching in 2012 with Doritos Dinamita Chile Limon and (the now seemingly defunct) Nacho Picoso, there are finally four new Doritos Dinamita flavors. I tried each and every one of them—including the new Doritos Dinamita sticks—and I’m going to tell you whether they’re worthy of your snacktime.

Dinamita Doritos began as Doritos’ answer to Takis; they’re rolled tortilla chips coated in spicy, boldly flavored seasoning. But now the Dinamita line has expanded into the hot fries territory with their Doritos Dinamita Sticks. It’s an odd decision, if you ask me. At least, that’s what I thought before I tasted them. Read on to find out if the new Doritos Dinamita flavors live up to the tangy, limey, spicy original Doritos Dinamita Chile Limon, and if Doritos Dinamita Sticks are good or simply confusing.

New Doritos Dinamita!

Doritos Dinamita Flamin Hot Queso

Out of the packaging, these look exactly the same as the Doritos Dinamita Chile Limon—they have the same dark vermillion hue. But the flavor is nowhere near as good.

Pros: But let’s start positive. They taste like classic Nacho Cheese Doritos just spicy—spicier than Doritos Spicy Nachos. If that’s what you’ve always dreamed of, then you will love these. But, for me, they just weren’t giving me anything new and exciting, which is what I’m looking for in Doritos Dinamita flavors.

Cons: These chips are spicy in a way that lights up the back of your throat, rather than your lips or tongue. I didn’t find it particularly pleasant. And, as I said before, they just didn’t wow me with any new, interesting flavor.

New Doritos Dinamita!

Doritos Dinamita Sticks Hot Honey Mustard

Let’s talk about the new Doritos Dinamita sticks. They look like french fries. And they all have a light and crispy-crunchy texture, sort of like the fries you get at the bottom of a batch, but a little bit airier. They’re not like any other Doritos product I’ve ever had, and I think they’re a welcome addition to the line-up. They’re a good flavored-powder delivery system. And, when it comes to the Hot Honey Mustard, the more of that dust, the better.

Pros: At first, you taste sweet honey mustard and you think, huh, this isn’t spicy, where’s the hot? And then BAM you are hit with that nasal clearing hot mustard heat. It’s such a unique, new flavor and such a departure for Doritos. I really, really love it. If you’re going to try any of the new Doritos Dinamita flavors or Doritos Dinamita sticks, this should be the one you try.

Cons: If you don’t like the kind of heat you get from wasabi and you don’t like mustard, you won’t like these. Personally, I love both of those things, so I’m all in.

New Doritos Dinamita!

Doritos Dinamita Sticks Smokey Chile Queso

Doritos Dinamita is doubling down with a second queso flavored product in this release of new Doritos Dinamita flavors. But this one comes on the new Doritos Dinamita sticks.

Pros: It’s very, very, very cheesy. This is a much cheesier option than the Flamin Hot Queso. Hungering for so much cheesy flavor? (And I mean “cheesy flavor” in the most processed sense of the phrase.) Then you’ll like these.

Cons: They were way too cheesy for my taste. It was overwhelming. Perhaps if there was some real heat to balance out that flavor it could have been better. Instead, there was a fake smoke flavor that made this snack taste old. Pass.

New Doritos Dinamita!

Doritos Dinamita Sticks Tangy Fiery Lime

Do not get these confused with the original Doritos Dinamita Chile Limon. These are different. They are Doritos Dinamita Sticks, first of all, and they don’t taste as good as what you might assume was their inspiration.

Pros: If your favorite part about Doritos Dinamita Chile Limon is the limon, then Doritos has made the perfect snack for you. These sticks taste pretty much only like fake lime—like someone sprinkled True Lime powder all over them. Love love love lime? Then you’ll love love love these.

Cons: While there is some face-warming spice paired with the lime flavor, these sticks were too one note for me. I would have much preferred the company simply turn Doritos Dinamita Chile Limon into Doritos Dinamita Chile Limon Sticks instead.
