Why Make This Recipe

I can’t be the only one who sometimes sneaks bites of cookie dough knowing it’s no-no. …It just tastes so good! Which is probably why Ben and Jerry’s cookie dough ice cream is such a huge seller… because of people like us.

Safe to Consume

This cookie dough recipe is safe to consume and comes directly from Ben and Jerry, the company that made a no-no into a yes-yes with their Ben and Jerry cookie dough bites and cookie dough ice cream.

Note that this IS the cookie dough you find inside of their ice creams. This is their recipe, untouched and in all of its glory. You can’t fix perfection, am I right? Since they were so kind as to share it with the world, I’m sharing it here with all of you.

Affordable

While you could buy a package of Ben and Jerry’s edible cookie dough bites in the freezer section of your grocery store, making them at home is so much better. It’s not only cheaper, but you get so much more bang for your buck (and get to lick the spoon).

Munch on your cookie dough bites as-is or serve them with vanilla ice cream. I can picture them making an incredible addition to an ice cream bar at your next party too!

Ingredients

Ben and Jerry's Cookie Dough Bites (3)
  • Flour: All-purpose flour is the base of this cookie dough, just make sure to follow the safety steps for cooking it so that it’s safe to eat.
  • Butter: We want to use unsalted butter that’s been softened to room temperature. This will help it blend more easily.
  • Brown sugar: This is a pretty great ingredient in any chocolate chip cookie recipe because it gives such great flavor and moisture. Even unbaked, it does its job well in this edible dough.
  • Vanilla: Adding in vanilla will help to make the dough taste incredible. Use a high quality vanilla for even stronger flavors.
  • Heavy cream: This is a great way to make our dough soft, rich, and creamy.
  • Salt: Salt will help to make the other flavors in the recipe taste even better.
  • Chocolate chips: I prefer to use mini chocolate chips because there’s more chocolate in every bite but you can use semi-sweet or chocolate chunks if you truly wanted to.

Step-By-Step Instructions

  1. Heat the flour. In a microwave safe bowl, heat the flour on high in 30 second intervals, stirring between each. Continue heating the flour until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F on an instant read thermometer.

  4. Jared Reply

This recipe is AMAZING! I made it with the vanilla ice cream recipe on this website and it was SO GOOD!

  5. dotan Reply

It seems like there is not enough fluid to melt all the sugar into,
The butter and cream still leaves a lot of the sugar as grains, which is not the texture we are aiming for i believe?

    • Whitney Reply

I think it tastes good. If you read the blog post, you’ll notice this is the exact recipe Ben & Jerry’s uses. So….

  6. Taj Royer Reply

Oh my heavens this edible cookie dough is AMAZING! We made it with you homemade vanilla ice cream and the cookie dough chunks are perfect in it! They don’t get hard and frozen, they stay soft enough that your teeth just sink through them. It’s the best cookie dough ice cream I’ve ever had!

  8. Hilary Reply

You should rename this “Better then Ben and Jerry’s “. It is so easy and delicious! I can’t believe I paid almost $5.00 for it at the store.

    • Whitney Reply

I’m so glad you said this! I’ve thought the same thing several times. 💛

  9. bc in edmond Reply

Approximately how long does it take to cook the flour? 60 seconds? 6 minutes? Also, did you mean “heat” rather than “heave” – hope so! Thanks!

    • Whitney Reply

Haha, I’m so sorry, yes HEAT! I changed the recipe card. It will take about 45 seconds to 1 minute (at least that’s how long it took for my microwave). Let me know if you have any other questions!

      • bc in edmond

Thanks for answering so quickly – can’t wait to try these!
