How to replace Cub Cadet zero turn deck belt? ›

There's no definite amount of time that a mower belt is supposed to last, but increased mower use shortens the interval in which a belt needs replacement. Simply put, more use equals more wear. Additionally, faulty belts or mechanical failures like a seized pulley can make lawn mower belts break prematurely.

Its primary role is to transfer power from the engine to the blades, enabling them to rotate and cut grass effectively.

Deck Material Build-Up

The last, and perhaps most common reason for repeated belt breakage on your mower, is the build-up of debris on the deck of your mower. Over time, dirt, grass clippings, and even trash can accumulate on the deck.

(e) The tight side of the belt should be at the bottom, so that whatever sag is present on the loose side will increase the arc of contact at the pulleys.

Figure 58.4 is an illustration of how a V-belt should sit in the pulley groove. The top of the belt should be within 1 16 -inch of the outer surface of the pulley. If the belt top is deeper in the groove, the groove or belt is worn, which can shorten the remaining belt life by as much as 50 per cent.

A simple tip to make sure the belt is on the correct side of the pully. If the pulley is flat then the back side of the belt rides against it. If the pulley is V shaped then the V side of the belt goes towards the pulley.

For most effective results, a lawn mower deck should have a pitch, or height difference of 1/8-inch to 1/2-inch between the front of the deck to the back of the deck.

The deck belt is the one that powers the blades and the drive belt powers the tractor's motion. The deck belt comes with the deck when you remove the deck but the drive belt remains with the tractor.

Adjust the deck by loosening the hex bolt on the left hangar bracket. Raise or lower the deck by loosening the hex bolt on the left hangar bracket. When both blade tips have the same measurement from the ground, tighten the hex bolt.

How do you remove a mower deck belt? ›

Depress the brake pedal and move the shift lever into reverse position. Finally, turn the key to the reverse/caution mode. Push the PTO/blade lever to the on position to engage the blades.

Insert an adjustable wrench on one of the lift-link adjustment nuts behind the driver's seat. A lift-link adjustment nut is on each side of the mower. Turning the nuts counterclockwise lowers the deck, and turning them clockwise raises the deck.
