Ricky D. Carl, 71, of Allegany, NY passed away Sunday (June 9, 2024) after a long illness with his family by his side.

Born February 11, 1953, in Elmira, he was the son of John and Grace Shelman Carl. On September 1, 2019, in Bolivar he married Janice Johnson who survives.

Ricky attended National Technical Schools in Buffalo and also Corning Community College. In 1970 he enlisted in the United States Army where he served in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1972.

Ricky worked several years as an inspector for AMC in Olean. He was also a records inventory clerk for the City of Corning and was a clerk in the Army.

He was an avid supporter for theWounded Warrior Projectand loved being out on the water fishing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Jami (Tim) Woods of Elmira and son Cory Carl of Bath.
He was predeceased by his son Matthew Carl of Virginia and daughter Alicia Carl.

In respect to Ricky’s wishes, no services are being scheduled. Burial will take place in Maple Grove Cemetery, Friendship, NY.

Cindy L. Wagner of 227 Portville Ceres Road, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at the Olean General Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Cindy was born November 17, 1957 in Olean and was the daughter of Gerald Clifford and Nancy Frances LaFever Wagner.

Cindy was a 1975 graduate of Portville Central School. She attended SUNY of Fredonia graduating in 1988 with her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. Cindy worked for the Second Harvest Food Bank as the administrator in Elizabeth City, NC and Tallahassee, FL. She also worked as an administrator for various nonprofits including YWCA, Vivé, Neighbor Works Community Partners. Cindy also did fundraising for various other charities including the Village of Portville, Mount View Cemetery, and the Olean Times Herald as a free lance reporter.

Cindy loved reading and was a member of the Library of Congress. She also loved her pet dogs.

Helen E. Kwiatkowski Watson passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at her daughters home.

Helen was born on July 7, 1943 in Franklinville. The daughter of Edward M. and Dorothy M. Fothergill Kwiatkowski. At the age of two, Helen’s parents moved to Anderson Road where she would reside her entire life.

On June 5, 1965, she was married in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church to her former husband, James A. Watson of Olean. She was married 25 years to James. Together they had three children: Laurie, Wendy and James Jr.

Helen graduated from Portville Central School class of 1961; St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1962, receiving her NYS nursing license in that year. She also attended Olean Business Institute. During Helen’s life she was honored with the Betty Crocker Award; The Florence Nightingale Award, and The Every Women Opportunity Achievement Award presented to her by Senator Pat McGee.

Helen worked at Cuba Lake concession stand in the 1960s; St. Francis Hospital; AM and A’s; Olean Medical Group; Cattaraugus County (Job Training Program) and retired from the Cattaraugus County Health Department, (NYS Early Intervention Program) after 21 years of service. Helen was a stay-at-home mom for 25 years while raising her family.

Richard was an avid animal lover. He loved spending time with his dog, “Oreo”. He enjoyed doing crafts and spending time with his family.

Suzanne C Susie Murray, 90, of Howard Circle, Emporium, PA passed away Wednesday night (June 12, 2024). She was born on November 26, 1933 in Emporium at (Jo Pleak’s “Big House”) on Sixth Street. She was the daughter of the late William and Ruth McMillan Sullivan.

On May 11, 1962 in Saint Mark Catholic Church she married the late James W Murray. He preceded her in death on December 25, 2020.

She graduated from Emporium High School in the class of 1951. She enjoyed planning the class reunions and keeping up with all the classmates throughout the years.

A lifelong resident of Emporium, she was involved in many social activities, including, Secretary of EHS/CCHS alumni, a life member of Cameron County Historical Society, VFW Auxiliary, many different bowling leagues, card clubs and morning coffee groups. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels for many years. She was an active member of Saint James and Saint Mark Catholic Churches. She was most proud to be involved with her extended Sullivan, Anderson and Schager families.

Harry L. Himes, 77, of Pinecrest Manor, and formerly of Boot Jack Road, Ridgway, PA passed away on Monday, June 10, 2024.

He was born on January 2, 1947, in Brookville, a son of the late William Wade Himes, and Mary Lindsey Himes, who survives of St. Marys.

Harry was a member of Awakening Alliance Church and a past treasurer of the Ridgway Senior Center. He was very involved in the church, and could often be found playing the organ and singing in the choir. In his spare time, Harry always enjoyed playing a good card game.

Peter Alyoious Eckert, 86 of Bridgeville, DE, formerly of Austin, PA, passed away peacefully, Sunday, April 28, 2024, at home. He was born on July 7, 1937, in Saint Marys, son of the late Ferdinand “Fred” and Sara (Wolfe) Eckert. He married the former Marjorie A. Huling on July 11, 1959, at the Austin United Methodist Church. They celebrated 59 years of marriage until her passing on May 31, 2019.

Peter worked in construction on the family farm, Stone Quarry & Coal Mine, Saint Marys, Allegany Mnt. Const., Conn-E Const., and several Const. Co. in PA and DE. Pete also owned and operated Eckert’s Tavern and Eckert’s Exxon & Towing, Austin, and Eckert Bros. Tools Hardware & Surplus, Laurel, DE. Earlier in life, Pete worked for his parents at Little Fella Fish Hatchery, Odin, the Rainbow Paradise, Coudersport, Greeleys Garage, Austin, The Austin Boro, and the PA Housing Authority. Peter was known as a “Jack of all Trades”. There wasn’t a tool made that he didn’t know what it was for and how to use it. If he didn’t know he would make it up.

Peter enjoyed his morning coffee for years at Myers Country Store, Bridgeville, where he and his friends would discuss and solve the world’s problems. In younger years, Peter was an avid snowmobiler and enjoyed camping and traveling. After retirement in 1998, Pete and Marge traveled up and down the East Coast, across the country to Las Vegas, and several trips to Texas. They enjoyed visits with family and friends all over.

Marcie Anne (Kreger) Dinnison, age 66, of Wellsboro, PA, joined her son in heaven on June 10, 2024.

She was born on April 20, 1958 in Blossburg, PA.

Marcie was a pet groomer at the Wellsboro Pet Complex for 36 years.

She enjoyed camping, going to the beach, making Christmas a magical celebration, and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her mother: Dorothy Kreger of Wellsboro, PA, three daughters: Erica (Chad) Pequignot of Covington, PA, Kayleigh (Damon) Smith of Wellsboro, PA, Dailyn (Emily) Cooney of Wellsboro, PA, two brothers: Dr. Leonard Kreger of Nauvoo, PA, Steve (Cathy) Kreger of Morris, PA, 7 grandchildren: Taylor Henninger, Ollie Pequignot, Robbie Pequignot, Addie Smith, Paity Smith, Brynn Smith, Rowen Cooney.

She was predeceased by her father Robert Kreger, a son: Lennie Winters, and a granddaughter: Evelyn Patricia Cooney.

A memorial gathering to honor Marcie’s life will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Marcie’s house, 67 Homer St., Wellsboro, PA.

Bragg, NC.On August 2, 1961, in Harrison Valley, he married the former Beverly A. McConnell, who survives.

Olean- Margaret A. “Peggy” Cashimere “Loving wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister & Aunt”

Margaret A. Cashimere passed away on June 11, 2024, at the Cuba Nursing Home after a long illness.

Born July 2, 1936, in Olean, NY, she was the daughter of Martin and Ardis Bryski. She married Paul Cashimere who predeceased her on November 13, 2021.

Peggy grew up in Olean, where she attended Olean High School and excelled in writing, receiving national recognition for her essays and poetry. She was also crowned Homecoming Queen in 1953 before graduating from OHS in 1954. In her next chapter, she became a full-time wife and mother, raising her six children in Olean. While her children were growing up, she was very active in the St. John’s school and church community as well as Archbishop Walsh High School. In 1990 she went to work for Archbishop Walsh as a secretary and Alumni Coordinator. This role suited her very well, as she was known for her meticulous record keeping and attention to detail. She and her husband Paul were awarded the Walsh Persons of the Year for their dedication and service to the Walsh community.

After retiring, she stayed active gardening and loved taking care of her flowers. She was also very active with her 16 grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling to Texas and Maryland for extended stays to spend time with them. She would follow each one of her 16 grandkids’ activities, from baseball to boy scouts to sports and dance. She also loved to cook and bake and could never say no to a request for her chocolate cake with white frosting.

Richard “Gabby” Butterfuss,90, of Ridgway, PA passed away at his home on Sunday, June 9, 2024.

He was born on October 16, 1933, in Ridgway, the son of the late Donald and Edna Gerg Butterfuss.

On April 16, 1956, Richard married the late Joanne “Kaye” Luchs, who preceded him in death on September 22, 2018.

Richard was a dedicated member of St. Leo Catholic Church, devoting many years to teaching CCD to the community’s youth. He served in the United States Navy. Richard was known for his passion and dedication to coaching baseball, his love for playing in the band, and his enjoyment of country music. An avid crossword puzzle enthusiast, Richard also held the prestigious title of Past President of the Musician Union.

He is survived by 5 children; Toni (Francis) Funair of Cranberry Twp, Ruth (Richard) Anderson of Ridgway, John (Sue) Butterfuss of Ridgway, Mary (Jack) Kalonowski of Washington, and Lisa (Leroy) Fergusson of Ridgway, 16 grandchildren, Shannon, Mario, Amber, Maria, Lacey, Renee, Steven, Brody, Melissa, Steve, Bob, David, Paula, Ross, Sean, and Jennifer, and 24 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Gene Butterfuss and Donald Butterfuss, a sister, Peggy Kozowski, 2 granddaughters, Rebecca and Alexandia, and a great-granddaughter, Maggie.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 17, 2024, at 10:00 AM at St. Leo Catholic Church, 111 Depot Street, Ridgway, PA 15853, with Fr. Justin Pino officiating.

Burial will follow at St. Leo Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at Krise Funeral Home, 130 Center St., Ridgway, PA 15853, from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM.

Madeline N. (Schwab) Tascone passed away on November 1, 2023 in Orlando, Florida.

Born June 18, 1925 in Bradford, PA, Madeline was the daughter of Rell and Florence (James) Schwab of Duke Center, PA. She was raised in Duke Center among a large extended family throughout her elementary and high school years and was a proud graduate of Otto Eldred High School, Class of 1943, traveling from Orlando to attend her 70thclass reunion in 2013.

After World War II, Madeline moved to Bradford and worked at Kendall, during which time she met and married her husband, Joseph F. Tascone of Bradford, who had returned after serving with honor in the infantry in France. Joseph predeceased her in 2011.

During their marriage of 65 years, they raised five children and resided in Olean, NY, Erie, PA, St. Louis, MO, Montreal, Quebec, and Elmira, NY, as Joseph’s academic studies and career required, before retiring to Orlando in 1999.

Victor was a graduate of the Youngwood High School, class of 1954, and University of Pittsburgh, Applied Math, 2004.

He was a veteran, having served from 1955-1976 with the US Air Force. He served 21 years and his last tour was at the Pentagon. He worked with radar, Atlas D Missile, and most recently, with computer maintenance.

Victor also drove school bus for the Hempfield Area School District from 1977-2002.

He attended the Smethport Alliance Church & Good Life Chapel at Good Life RV Resort, Mesa, AZ. He was also a member of Smethport Elderberry Senior Group.

He enjoyed gardening, shuffleboard, bicycling, pinochle in AZ, and helping at the Smethport Senior Center or his church.

Born January 18, 1927, in Kane he was the son of the late Donald Edward and Clara Marie Johnson Paup. On he enlisted in the US. Navy serving during WW II. On February 19, 1964, in Kane, he Married Martha Fogel ; together they shared 60 years of love and laughter.

Donald worked 42 years in various positions with the Chevron Oil Company in Texas. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #566 F & AM, Kane Community Methodist Church, and the American Mt. Shawnarea Callahan, 53, of Emporium, PA passed away at her residence, Emporium, PA on Tuesday morning (June 4, 2024) following a brief illness.

She was born September 16, 1970 in Ridgway, PA a daughter of the late Daniel and Lillian Smith Zimmer and John Erskine. On October 14, 1995 in First United Methodist Church, Emporium, PA she married Thomas Callahan, who survives.

Shawnarae graduated from Cameron County High School. She was the former executive director of the Cameron County Chamber of Commerce. She loved hunting and fishing and was active in many high school sports as well as adult recreational sports. She loved spending time with her family and friends.

Margaret “Peg” Victor Howard, surrounded by family and friends, passed away at her home on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at 79 years old.

She was born June 15, 1944, in Ridgway to Mario “Spike” T Victor and Margaret Whelan.

Peg was a lifelong resident of Ridgway. Throughout her life, she was a professional secretary, a showjumper, a scuba diver, a softball coach, a proud staff member at Joe Mac’s Pub, and an ATA bus driver. Among these achievements, Peg was a mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. She loved to travel, especially to attend her granddaughters’ softball games. Everyone who was ever in her orbit was imparted some kind of wisdom to, whether you wanted it or not. To say she will be missed by those who love her is an understatement.

She is survived by her partner Patricia Lewis of Ridgway; her sons Dean Howard and his wife Christine of Greensburg, and Daniel Howard and his wife Michelle of Ridgway; her granddaughters Margaret and Lauren Howard of Greensburg, and Elizabeth Howard of Florida; her grandsons Cameron Howard and his
partner Chelsie of Ridgway, Benjamin Howard and William Howard of Florida, and Frank Howard of Ridgway; her great-grandson Sullivan Howard of Ridgway; her sisters Carol Swanson and Marcia Dunton of Ridgway, and her brothers Frank Victor and his wife Melissa, and Michael Victor and his wife Betsy of
Erie. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and her great group of friends (Boogie, Kim, Mona, Pam, Gina, Rosa, Servie, Judy, and Amy).

She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved stepmother Betty Victor, her son Donald Howard, and her daughter-in-law Melissa Birch Howard.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Margaret Howard will be celebrated on Friday, June 14, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St. Leo Catholic Church, 111 Depot Street, Ridgway, PA 15853, with Fr. Justin Pino officiating.

Burial will be at Thayer Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Krise Funeral Home, 130 Center Street, Ridgway, PA 15853, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Penn Highlands Community Nurses.

Dorothy K. “Dot” Leslie, 96, of The Fountains at Dubois, and formerly of Ridgway, died on Saturday, June 8, 2024, following a lengthy illness.

She was born on November 23, 1927, in Providence, Rhode Island, the daughter of the late Claude L. and Mina Hopps Kessler.

On November 14, 1957, she married the late Robert E. Leslie, who preceded her in death on April 6, 2019. Together they shared more than 61 years of love and marriage.

Dot resided in Ridgway since 1960 and was a member of the United Methodist Church. She loved to read a good murder mystery, as well as making quilts and spending time quilting with the ladies in the local quilting group. She also liked to play dominoes with her friends in the dominoes group. Dot could often be found working in her flower beds and watching the birds. She had a great sense of adventure and traveled all over, far and wide.
